I was watching "Biggest Loser" last night and thinking "man, if I had Jillian or Bob riding my a** I would lose 20lbs in one week too!!
Then, I started thinking about observations I make in my day to day life. I have always been a "watcher". I like to observe others behavior, what they do and why. Its probably why I keep few friends. I am SURE some must think I am weird ;)...
One thing I have been observing through the years is the differences between (please forgive me for this) "skinnies" and "fatties". Sorry, but i REALLY hate being called Pleasantly plump" or "full figured". Lets call it what it is people!!! Its EXCESS FAT!! Plain and simple.
Anywhoo....where was I?!?! Oh, observations! I notice the simple things like a "skinnies" buy salad, skim milk, whole wheat breads, grains, chicken breast and LOTS of produce at the store. In other words WHOLE FOODS!!
"Fatties" have there carts LOADED up with white bread, cheese, whole milk, sugary breakfast cereals, sodas(yes, diet IS included in this)The only produce I ever see are potatoes and bananas and the occasional apples. In other words PROCESSED JUNK!!
Its also no surprise that "skinnies" tend to be(not always) Higher income and "fatties" tend to be lower income. But that is a blog for another time!!
The skinnies pack wholesome, nutrient rich lunches and snacks when they are heading to the beach or packing their kids school lunches. Us Fatties rely on "lets hit McDonalds on the way there and here is a check for your school lunch account". BTW, have you actually ever seen how unhealthy a school breakfast/lunch IS...omg!!!
The skinnies PLAY with their kids when they take them outside instead of sitting in a lounge chair out back or by the side of the pool.
The really fit mommies in my neighborhood push their babies in the stroller 2x a day around the neighborhood! Just last weekend when my best friend was here, we took my son to an indoor funhouse. SHE jumped around inside with him and slid down the slides...I NEVER HAVE!!! Not one time!
The difference...she is a skinny! I am not! It doesn't even OCCUR to me that I should...scratch that, it does. But I can usually stuff down the impulse with a million different excuses!
My point with all of this is not to make us feel any lower than we already do, but to EMPOWER US to DO MORE!!!
Forget about exercise. YES, that is what she said! FORGET ABOUT EXERCISE!!! For now.
Work on changing what goes in that shopping cart!
And PLEASE DONT use the excuse "my kids/husband wont eat it"...FINE, let them make their own! Let them buy their own. This should be something you to do for your ENTIRE FAMILY, not just you!! They deserve to be healthy also.
My son says he doesn't like things from time to time(he is almost 4) but we have a rule in our house. EVERYTIME it is served, you have to take a bite. If you don't like it, you don't have to eat more than that bite. BUT, you get no 2nds on anything else being served until THAT food is eaten. AND the next time it is served again, same rules apply!
And you know what...within 5-6 times of trying something, he usually likes it.
Also, kids WILL NOT let themselves STARVE!! They may skip a meal or even two...some are REALLY stubborn and go a few days, but they will NEVER get malnourished! STICK TO YOUR GUNS and they WILL eat it eventually!
Work on the little things like getting in that pool with your little boy, or playing in the sand box with your daughter. Go jump the waves at the beach with your kids or just go for a family walk around the neighborhood.
START THERE!! EVERYDAY do SOMETHING ACTIVE...for more than 5 minutes!!
Then, when that new, active lifestyle becomes routine(usually after about 60 days or so)add a fun fitness class. Or dust off that treadmill. You'll probably have lost some of that weight that has been holding you back from "exercise" AND it wont seem so daunting anymore.
We NEED to retrain OURSELVES and stop waiting for someone else to do it for us because...it will never happen!
